Inspiration

Although numbered #3.5, this was actually the first Enchanted Times Mini zine which came into existence (due to the somewhat malleable passage of time within the realms fairy tale, I feel free to play a little fast & loose with chronology, when it suits!). It was the result of a mail art challenge which I hosted, with the challenge being to create a piece based on favourites chosen by somebody else. I was determined to write a zine based on my partner's choice, although Rumpelstiltskin threw me slightly as it was not a story I had given much thought to in my previous fairy tale-based creative endeavors (although I was already a fan of Vivian Vande Velde's 'Rumpelstiltskin Problem'). Still I dug out the illustration on Page 1, from the old vintage Ladybird edition I remembered, and once I started writing the letter, it all fell into place. The process also made me really begin to engage with the tale, and gave me the seeds for a new story planned for Enchanted Times #4.
