Inspiration

Another one from a long time ago. Okay, I'll tell you a secret. I signed up for a swap: poetry illustrated by relief prints. One of the requirements was that each print was no smaller than 4" square. I had never done any relief prints before (not counting anything I did at school many many years previous) so I was really diving in at the deep end. It was hard work, but I actually think I did better on these first attempts than any more recent (smaller) projects... The reason this zine covers the particular stories it does is because they are the only flowers I managed to draw recognisable/acceptable pictures of. The poetry? None of that in the current version of the zine - believe me, it was terrible, and you will live a happier life for not having read it! It's interesting that my instinct was to head for fairy tales when I first started working on this project, but it's even more interesting what a different direction my work with fairy tales has taken since then...
