Every poppy bowl is unique, and is formed in my hands from a single piece of clay.
This one would make an elegant holder for a little tea light or votive candle. It can also be used in the bedroom, bathroom or kitchen to put jewellery in. The texture and colour inside this dish are so pretty that you might want to keep it empty as it looks great on its own for decoration.
Its delicate shape is given strength by my use of a very strong, textured, white clay, which I fired to stoneware temperature. This one is glazed with a deep pink-red shiny glaze on the inside with black accents in the textured bottom. I used layers of washy glaze to create the almost transparent effect of poppy petals. The outside was left unglazed to create contrast and let the natural beauty of the textured clay shine through.
