Upcycle Christmas, Sue Ryder - Vintage fabric and glass bead necklace
Description
This necklace has been handmade for the Sue Ryder Upcycle competition and cannot be bought at this time.
This striking and bold necklace started life as a pair of lycra leggings, some glass beads, a toddler's linen top and scraps of red fabric, all bought from my two local charity shops: The Evergreen trust and Geranium shop for the blind.
The leggings were cut lenghtways and machine-stitched into a tube using the stretch seam.
The glass beads were then placed into the lycra tube and each bead sealed off with a needle and a heavy weight cotton thread - I also stitched little empty mini "compartments" between each bead. The flowers were hand stitched from long strips of fabric and hand sewn onto the necklace.
No clasp at the rear, just tie off the 2 ends into a pretty bow.
I am in love with everything made from recycled fabric, and flowers are one one of my all time recycled items. I have seen and tried more than a hundred ways to make them into brooches, necklaces and all sorts of wonderful things. I cannot take credit for "inventing" this gorgeous necklace because these flowers have been done before by many inspirational crafters...I can however take pride in putting the necklace together from recycled clothes and doing it with much love and attention to detail :)
If you like my necklace, add it to your favorites.
Happy holidays to everyone :)
