Rationing during WWII meant that clothing had to be practical and hard-wearing. Often a child's school uniform was their best outfit and many evacuees were sent away dressed in their uniforms. Because the war effort was such a large part of life in the UK at the time, we have featured a uniform that would have been worn by an adult, to show how important their involvement was.
