Castle Farm is a busy, working farm of 1100 acres managed by the Alexander family, located in north Kent only 20 miles from central London.
In the Summer of 2009 my husband's brother and his wife visited us from Australia. They toured around the countryside for a fair bit of their visit, but one glorious July weekend we took them to visit The Hop Shop, in Shoreham, Kent, which is maybe a 15 minute drive from our house.We had discovered it on one of our frequent drives, where we just get in the car and go - we headed to Orpington and kept on going - the smell of the lavender was what hit us first, and then the colour as we drove over the hill! We also found we chose a very good weekend to make this discovery, because the following 2 weekends were when they held their annual lavender festival. We had a fabulous time - you have a tour of the fields, and actually stand in among the "crops" for part of it - the smell is absolutely divine!
This print has been manipulated to give it a high-contrast, almost lomographic feel. It comes in a choice of two finishes, either on high gloss premium quality, 280gsm photo paper (images 4 and 5), or on 220gsm matt canvas inkjet paper, which gives it the appearance of having been printed on fabric (images 1 and 2). Image 3 is a comparison of the two. Either way, the print is in A4 format. The edition is limited to 25 prints. The copyright remains with me, as the original photographer, and each print has been signed and dated on the back by me.
